Who Was Marco Polo?

Last week's Knight to Remember was a great culminating event and a wonderful way to share our understanding of Medieval Europe.  We are now expanding or study of medieval times by investigating Marco Polo and Imperial China.  China is a truly fascinating place, and looking into life there during the 11th and 12th centuries is so interesting.

You can see some of the topics we have been covering in class by viewing this Prezi.

Popplet - collect your thoughts

Today we used Popplet in our RaVE class to generate and collate our thoughts about heroes.

This was a lot of fun and proved to be a very effective way to keep a record of our thinking.  I am looking forward to using it more and to having the students create their own.

Athletics Carnival - Day 2

Tomorrow, Friday July 15, is day 2 of our Athletics Carnival.  The events will begin at 9am and should conclude around 3pm.  It promises to be an action packed day with all 4 houses still in contention for the crown of athletics champion.

The Birth of a new Nation

This term in Year 9 SOSE we began our study of World War I by looking at Australia at the turn of the 20th century, with particular emphasis on our federation in 1901.  This was a very important event for Australia as a nation, one that changed our country forever.

The birth of a country is a very significant moment in world history, and it was very exciting to see South Sudan gain its independence on July 9.  I hope this now leads to peace and prosperity in an area of the world that has been plagued by violence and sadness for so long.

Welcome to the world South Sudan.
